Marriages
The Town of Goderich is pleased to offer the convenience of completing your marriage licence application online.
Before entering into marriage in the Province of Ontario, individuals are required to obtain a marriage licence. These licences are valid for ceremonies held anywhere in Ontario and remain effective for three months from the date of issuance. If a marriage does not take place within this period, a new licence must be obtained, and the associated fee paid again.
Applicants are advised to ensure they meet all the provincial requirements for marriage in Ontario prior to submitting their application.
The online application process takes approximately 25-30 minutes to complete and requires both applicants to be present to provide the necessary information.
After completing the online application, you must contact the Town Hall to schedule an appointment for the issuance of your marriage licence. Appointments can be arranged by calling 519-524-8344 or emailing townhall@goderich.ca. Provided that all required documentation is submitted, the marriage licence will typically be issued within 48 business hours.

The Officiant who performs the marriage will send the signed marriage licence to ServiceOntario for registration. Approximately 8 – 10 weeks after your ceremony you may apply to the Office of the Registrar General (online through ServiceOntario), to obtain your official Certificate of Marriage, the official legal record of your marriage. You may apply online at www.serviceontario.ca .
Please note that your Marriage Certificate is NOT automatically sent to you by the Registrar General.
