Freedom of Information

Under Ontario’s Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), you have the right to request access to municipal records, including your personal information.

The First Step:

You are encouraged to contact the Clerk to discuss your information request. Access could be granted without the need to go through a formal procedure.

How to Make a Freedom of Information (FOI) Request:

  1. Identify the Town department likely to hold the information.

  2. Complete the Freedom of Information request form with as much detail as possible.

  3. Submit the form along with the $5.00 application fee to the Clerk, in-person via cash, debit, or a cheque payable to the Town of Goderich.

You should receive a response within 30 days.

Response and Decision:

If any information is withheld, an explanation will be provided in a decision letter. This letter will detail the decision, reasons, and any related costs. The Town is required to respond within 30 calendar days of receiving the request.

Appeals:

If you are not satisfied with the Town's decision about your access request, you can file an appeal with the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.
