Court Security and Prisoner Transportation Delegation Meeting
Mayor Bazinet, Deputy Mayor Noel, Councillor Caroll and CAO Hallahan met with the Honourable Zee Hamid, Associate Solicitor General for Auto Theft and Bail Reform, on Monday, August 17 at the 2026 AMO Conference to discuss the financial burden of Court Security and Prisoner Transportation services.
As Court Security and Prisoner Transportation are integral components of the broader provincial justice system, and as the host municipality for local court services (cited in the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019), the Town of Goderich is responsible for these costs through local property taxes. The Town continues to advocate and pressure for the costs associated with Court Security and Prisoner Transportation to be fully transferred to the Province of Ontario.
Thank you to Associate Solicitor General Zee Hamid and Ministry staff for the opportunity to discuss this important issue and funding deficit and to the County of Huron and thank you to the County of Huron for their financial support over the past two years for the Court Security and Prisoner Transportation shortfall.
