Drinking Water Source Protection
Source water is the raw, untreated water from lakes, rivers, and underground aquifers. "Drinking Water Source Protection" aims to keep these water sources safe from pollution and overuse. We focus on prevention to ensure clean drinking water for everyone.
Goderich Water Supply:
Our water is sourced from Lake Huron. The immediate area around the intake is the Intake Protection Zone-1 (IPZ-1), and the area where water takes two hours to reach the intake is IPZ-2. These are the most vulnerable zones for our municipal water supply. Visit the Source Protection Information Atlas for additional information. Report spills to the Spills Action Centre at 800-268-6060.
Ausable Bayfield Maitland Valley Drinking Water Source Protection:
The Town is located in the Ausable Bayfield Maitland Valley Drinking Water Source Protection Zone and is a member of the Ausable Bayfield Maitland Valley Drinking Water Source Protection Committee - North Group.
About the Source Protection Committee (SPC):
The Committee reduces risk to drinking water in the Maitland Valley and Ausable Bayfield source protection areas. The SPC does this by putting into action locally developed and provincially approved source protection plans.
