Environmental Action Committee

The Environmental Action Committees mandate is to:

To make recommendations to Council on various issues related to the Committee’s objectives;

  • To serve as an advisory, resource and information support group to the citizens of Goderich and Council;
  • To encourage and promote sustainable and achievable programs;
  • Discuss new or changing environmental legislation or regulations
  • Research new and relevant environmental issues; and
  • Enhance the quality of life in the Town

 The objective of the Environmental Action Committee for the 2018 – 2022 term is to prepare a four-year Work Plan that identifies priority environmental issues and actions in cooperation with Town staff to be approved by Council.  At the beginning of each year, the Environmental Action Committee will update the Work Plan and present an annual progress report to Council.

 The Work Plan will include:

  • Waste reduction, reuse and recycling programs;
  • The protection, conservation, and enhancement of natural systems (water, wastewater, Goderich’s shoreline and energy conservation measures);
  • Greenhouse gas reduction;
  • Maintaining the health of our ecosystem;
  • Involvement with other environmental issues or initiatives; and
  • Implementation of the Work Plan will include;
  • Public engagement and public education initiatives;
  • Evaluation of specific Goderich environmental initiatives/projects; and
  • Monitoring outcomes to ensure they achieve a positive environmental impact and contribute to broader efforts to address climate change.
