MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF'S DESK
On behalf of the firefighters of the Goderich Fire Department, thank you for visitng our website and for your interest in our organization.
The department takes great pride in its ability to serve the needs of our community. Each day, our citizens call upon us to respond to a variety of emergencies including fire suppression, motor vehicle collisions (MVC) response/extrications, and a wide variety of medical calls to help to assist the county EMS service.
We have worked tirelessly to provide you with the most cost effective, trained, and equipped staff possible. I am very proud, as you should be, of our firefighters who continue to show their dedication on many occasions when the call for service has been answered.
Although we are here to help you in your time of need, you also have a responsiblity to do your part to avoid creating those times of need. Some things that you can take care of are:
- Properly dispose of smoking materials
- Stay in the kitchen while you are cooking
- Using extension cords only on a temporary basis
- Have your heating systems inspected regualarly
- Keep your chimneys clean and in good working order
- Keep your outdoor open air burns in control and compliant with the town by-law
It is your responsibility to have properly working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in your homes. It’s also the law! Even with your best efforts, a fire could still start; and only properly working smoke alarms will give you and your family the necessary early detection to escape safely. We also strongly recommend that you create and practice a home escape plan. Knowing how to escape your home, and where to meet when you do, are all part of your responsibility for your own safety.
The Goderich Fire Department is made up of the Chief, Deputy Chief, Four (4) Captains and twenty two (22) firefighters. We protect a population of approximately 12,000 residents living in over 218 square kilometers. The Department also services parts of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh and Central Huron Townships.
Thank-you for taking the time to visit our online home.
