Downtown Core Master Plan & Courthouse Park Landscape Design

In the wake of the tornado that ripped through the Town on August 21, 2011, the Town of Goderich is leading an initiative to prepare a Master Plan that focuses on the rebuilding of the Downtown Core along with recommendations for other tornado-affected areas, and a landscape design for Courthouse Park. The goal of the initiative is to prepare an urban design vision and implementation plan for public and private redevelopment of the Downtown Core and to prepare a park plan to guide the rehabilitation of Courthouse Park. The Master Plan will also include recommendations for the rebuilding of other tornado-affected areas.

The Town has retained a team led by The Planning Partnership (www.planpart.ca). The Planning Partnership is a firm of landscape architects, architects and planners who have prepared for Downtown Master Plans and park plans for communities across the Province. They will be assisted by specialists in transportation from Poulos and Chung, retail and commercial strategies from Urban Metrics and heritage from Carl Bray and Associates.

Central to the preparation of the Master Plan and Park Plan is the Goderich Design Workshop which took place on January 12, 13 and 14, 2012 at the Royal Canadian Legion. The Design Workshop was a multi day consultation event during which the team set up a temporary design studio in the Royal Canadian Legion and developed the framework of the Master Plan and Park Plan while working in consultation with the community. The Charrette included a series of round table discussions, drop in centres, workshops, presentations and one-on-one meetings. Approximately 500 residents of the Town attended the workshop and many more participated through on-line forums. The final presentation from the Master Plan Design Workshop is available online at http://goderichmasterplan.com
