Our
Mandate
-
To enhance the community's rich
heritage through the research findings of its waterfront study projects.
-
Through collaboration with other groups, a multi-faceted approach will
be taken to strengthen
the local economy through the generation of cultural, heritage,
recreation and education interests.
-
One significant outcome, of economic
consequence to the County, would be the establishment of a scuba diving
industry for Ontario's West Coast.
-
The documentation of the marine
shipwreck history will fill a major void in Ontario historical
publications. The possibility of establishing a protected
underwater heritage park is also a consideration.
-
The goal is to document
marine shipwreck history of the Huron shoreline, particularly the 25 km
radius from the Port of Goderich. Land-based research will provide the
basis for underwater search operations to locate wreckage sites for
direct archaeological study. Findings will be reported in an
interactive, multi-media website and in various print publications.
