Tax Relief Measures Available From Canada Revenue Agency
National Revenue Minister Gail Shea would like all Canadians who were affected by the recent tornado in Goderich to know that the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has taxpayer relief provisions available to those who can't meet their tax obligations due to the effects of circumstances beyond their control.
Under the CRA taxpayer relief provisions, any taxpayer can apply to the CRA to have interest and/or penalties waived or cancelled in situations where they are unable to file a tax return and/or make a payment on time due to a natural disaster or other extraordinary circumstances beyond their control.
Taxpayers should submit their request in writing using form RC4288: Request for Taxpayer Relief. The CRA will consider these requests on a case-by-case basis.
Affected taxpayers who have questions or concerns about the CRA's taxpayer relief provisions can access additional information on the CRA website or they can call the CRA at 1.800.959.8281.
Business owners and self employed individuals can call the CRA at 1.800.959.5525.

Status of Goderich Businesses now Online: As a result of the tornado on August 21, 2011 some Goderich businesses have temporarily relocated and are in the process of re-opening. Numerous businesses remain open for business as usual. On-going updates on the status of businesses can be found at the modified shopinhuron.ca website.
Business listings are being updated through a partnership with the County of Huron, the Town of Goderich, Goderich BIA and Chamber of Commerce. All organizations encourage people to support our local businesses in their efforts to rebuild while keeping their doors open.

A trailer in the parking lot of Suncoast Mall will provide full banking services. In addition, two ATMs have been set up at the main entrance to the mall. No surcharge on cash withdrawals for BMO customers using the ATMs.

Customers affected by the Goderich tornado may be eligible for additional accommodation based on their individual circumstances, including:
- TD customers who use ATMs in Goderich belonging to other financial institutions can contact us afterwards to reverse additional bank charges
- Mortgage customers may be able to defer a number of mortgage payments based on individual circumstances.
- Credit card and personal loan customers may be able to make special arrangements or defer payments.
- Special arrangements may be made for small business banking customers.
- TD Insurance customers can call 1.800.268.8955 to report a claim or to ask questions about insurance coverage.
